The Power of the (meno) pause

OK, it’s a cute play on words but it can also be a reality. It is often said that we become more patient and wise with age. Does that mean that we will inevitably learn to slow down, pay attention, notice things more and learn to respond with greater wisdom? In my experience, the answer is… not necessarily. Sometimes, we need help to create a new reality and some form mindfulness practice (awareness of sitting, walking, standing, lying down & everyday activities) can support the unfolding of that wisdom. Mindfulness is NOT about stopping thoughts or denying our experience. It’s main goal is to invite in awareness of our experience and to connect with the inner stillness that is already there. From this place of stillness and greater awareness, we learn to pause and respond in ways that are more in line with how we want to be in the world. We get clearer about how we want to show up for ourselves and others. We build our capacity to respond with integrity even when challenging emotions and situations show up in our lives. We begin to walk our talk and there is a sense that we are fine with things being “just as they are”. We let go of striving and we rest in our own sense of goodness and gratitude for what is already here. Yes, through a regular practice of the (meno) pause of mindfulness, many changes are possible and more goodness begins to flow.
