A GROUP FOR WOMEN (self-identified)

This MBCT based program was developed by clinical psychologist Dr. Lori Brotto who studies women’s sexual health. The sexual response in women is different from men and invites a different type of support. Her groundbreaking approach has proven effective in “improving desire, arousal and satisfaction inside – and outside – the bedroom”. You will gain information about women’s sexual health and engage in exercises/practices that build mindfulness (present moment awareness) and guide you to increasing desire & sexual enjoyment as you develop awareness of your own body and its needs. Dr. Brotto’s mindfulness programs include gender-diverse people who reported benefiting “in the same way that cis-gender women have”. (Brotto, 2022). Being part of a committed relationship is not a prerequisite for this program.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence-based group therapy for preventing depressive relapse and treating mood disorders. It reduces depression, anxiety and stress. Mindfulness is a non-judgmental way of paying attention to the present moment with compassion. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is designed to bring awareness to the habitual negative thinking that leads to depressive and anxious spirals. Combined, MBCT interrupts how we habitually react to situations, so we can choose to respond in more skillful ways.  Research has demonstrated that MBCT is as effective as antidepressants in the prevention of depressive relapse or recurrence. (Kuyken, 2008). MBCT skills can support us in improving our sexual response.

Please contact Michele for more information or to be put on the list for the next session.

This is an 8 week on-line group program using the ZOOM platform. You are invited to have a yoga mat, blanket and water bottle on hand as well as a pillow and/or bolster for additional comfort if you wish for the practices. The group size is limited to 15 participants and you are encouraged to find a private place in your home as your space for these sessions. A commitment to practicing the MBCT skills is a central part of this program and contributes to its effectiveness.

As part of this program, you are invited to attend an on-line 1/2 day Silent Retreat. Retreat timing will be discussed with the group at the first session but some possible dates are: Feb 4th and 11th.
